THE Pakatan Harapan government will soon table a bill on racial and religious hatred, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said.
The new bill will enable action to be taken against all acts that insult the various religions and races in the country, not only Islam, he told the Dewan Rakyat this morning.
“We have many races and faiths in the country, and all are not to be insulted,” said Mujahid.
Mujahid (PH-Parit Buntar) said this in reply to Dr Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau), who had asked what the government would to do about insults to Islam, God and the Prophet on social media.
The Amanah minister said the government had yet to receive reports from the police about the alleged insults to the religion.
To another question from Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (PH-Hulu Langat) on “rebranding” Islam which was seen as a compulsory religion, Mujahid said the religion could not be rebranded.
“However, its administration can be rebranded.”
He said the administration of the official religion of the federation would be based on the concepts of “Rahmatan Lil’Alamin” (blessing for all the world), and “maqasid”.
“We want Malaysia to be a model nation that shows Islam can be inclusive and progressive in a multiracial and multicultural environment.” – July 24, 2018.
