THE opposition has given Pakatan Harapan one year to fulfil its election pledges to reduce the price of goods and cost of living.

Opposition leader and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the opposition will monitor PH’s efforts to deliver on these, as well as other, promises made prior to the 14th general election.

“I want to see if there is a reduction in the cost of living for the people. We will give them 100 days.

“After that, we will give them a year. After September 1, will the price of goods and the cost of living be reduced? After the re-implementation of the sales and services tax,” he said at a press conference today.

The former deputy prime minister said only “backward” countries reverted to SST from the goods and services tax.

“Based on the analysis I’ve read from experts and comparisons done, GST has been implemented in 160 countries.

“Only backward countries would re-implement SST.”

Former prime minister Najib Razak has warned that SST will lead to an increase in the price of goods.

SST will replace the 6% GST, which was introduced on April 1, 2015, and zero-rated on June 1 this year. – July 19, 2018.

  • Zahid -- you stupid or what?? You are not even comparing apple to apple on the implementation of GST with other countries. First of all do you major in Finance and Economics. Do not use your religious studies credential to be an analyst of the country economic well being. I wud advise that you STFU and concentrate in other related subjects to improve the bad perception affecting very badly on the Muslim race as how child marriages are getting rampant and work out a plan on reeducating the follies of such marriages. The next one would be on how to reduce divorce rates, rapes, incest and drug abuses. That should keep you well grounded instead of barking hollow empty nonsensical foul smelling saliva out from your unintelligible mouth.

  • Which countries have reverted to SST after implementing GST? Pakatan must have a plan to "fine-tune" SST if needed to further reduce prices..

    • Pakatan has announced a COLA, a Cost of Living Aid (or Allowance) to replace BR1M. Will it help boost SST-reduction of prices?..
