DEFEATED prime minister Najib Razak wants to be a “constructive” opposition lawmaker against the Pakatan Harapan government.

The Pekan MP said he wanted to serve the people and practise healthy democracy for Malaysia’s sake.

“I want to serve the people, be a constructive opposition member that develops, and play a role in the nation’s democracy,” Najib told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.

The former Umno president said PH always blamed Barisan Nasional for the country’s problems before they formed the government, and that he now wanted to see how PH handled criticism.

“When we were in government, they always blamed us. Now is their chance. They should allow us to speak up,” Najib said.

He complained the government was being unfair towards the opposition, as they did not allow them to protest in the chamber.

“We were opposing them for not following the Standing Orders, but the BN MPs were not given a chance to voice this,” Najib said.

Earlier today, opposition MPs, including PAS, left the Dewan Rakyat, after they disagreed with the naming of Mohd Ariff Md Yusof as speaker.

They claimed that PH breached the parliamentary Standing Orders and also the coalition’s own manifesto, which says a sitting MP should be speaker.

Najib insisted that PH should follow the “rule of law” and the opposition was holding them to the promises they made before taking over the government.

“It is a principle we will defend in the context of the rule of law, and we want the current government to deliver what has been promised to Malaysians.” – July 16, 2018.

  • The answer is to publish all notifications to the Parliament secretariat so that this sort of accusation can be nipped in the bud. I have to say PH managed the communications on this very badly. Made the DPM look a fool in declaring announcements that were never made.
