MALAYSIAN police are not deporting controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik, said Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun.

The country’s top cop also confirmed that police had no plans to extradite Zakir in the coming days.

Zakir has been living in Putrajaya after leaving India in 2016.

On the police’s side, there is no action to deport him, but I’m not sure about other agencies.

“But as far as I know, there is no action to deport him in the coming one or two days,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today.

Zakir is wanted in India for suspected links to terrorism, and has repeatedly failed to obey the Indian authorities’ orders to present himself for questioning.

Yesterday, Zakir’s organisation, the Islamic Research Foundation, denied Indian media reports that he was returning to India soon.

His lawyer also said there had been no notice for his extradition from the government.

Zakir was given permanent residency in Malaysia by the previous Barisan Nasional government.

He also holds the same status in Saudi Arabia.

Umno, the lynchpin party of BN, had been seen as close to Zakir, who was popular as an English-speaking preacher among the local Muslim community and was usually seen at Putra Mosque in the country’s administrative capital. – July 5, 2018.

  • This religious fanatic is known for his firebrand performance to belittle other religions and instigate his followers to fanatism & terrorism. He is also involved in money laundering. Hence he is banned in countries like Bangladesh & UK. He is wanted in India too. Does it make sense for Malaysia to harbour him despite all these facts?
This is why PH was elected to put an end to all these nonsense practise by Bn previously.
PH should have the political will to do what's right & send him back to india to face justice.
