SEVERAL high-ranking Umno leaders gathered in a show of support for disgraced former party president Najib Razak at his residence last night after he posted bail.
In a picture on Kelab Che Jib’s Facebook page, newly elected party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy Mohamad Hasan, Youth chief Ashyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Wanita chief Noraini Ahmad and Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan were seen at Najib’s house.
Several other notable Umno figures, such as former ministers Noh Omar, Mustapha Mohamad and Azalina Othman, as well as Umno council members Zambry Abd Kadir, Lokman Nor Adam and Ahmad Maslan, were also present.
Solat hajat prayers were also purportedly held for the former prime minister and his family.
Najib, 64, was charged yesterday with misusing his position as a government official to receive a RM42 million bribe as inducement to provide a sovereign guarantee on behalf of the Malaysian government for a RM4 billion loan from the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Najib, who fell from power after Barisan Nasional lost the May 9 general election, also faces three counts of criminal breach of trust in his capacity as prime minister, finance minister and SRC International adviser emeritus.
SRC International was formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the brainchild of Najib. – July 5, 2018.
