PNB chairman Zeti Akhtar Aziz said she will issue a response to claims by former prime minister Najib Razak that she was aware that RM2.6 billion was transferred into his bank accounts in 2013.

“I’m not going to comment now but at some point, you will get the comment,” the former Bank Negara chief told reporters at Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, Najib said he was not worried about the RM2.6 billion stashed in his bank accounts in 2013 because its existence was known to Zeti, who did not query him about it.

“If Bank Negara is in the know of these funds and they had an inkling or some knowledge that there could be some doubts about the source of the funds, I expected them to tell me.

“But nothing of that sort happened,” he was quoted as saying.

Zeti, who is also a member of the Council of Eminent Persons, was the central bank governor when it was revealed that RM2.6 billion had been deposited into Najib’s bank accounts.

Najib is under investigation for misappropriation and laundering of funds siphoned off 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the state investor he established when he became prime minister in 2009.

He has maintained that the billions found were a donation from a member of the Saudi royal family and that the money has since been returned to the donor. – July 3, 2018.

  • Actually it is very puzzling on how she landed her role as PNB Chairman when she has the 1MDB overcast waiting to pour out on her. Najib is not stupid to keep all the weight on himself regarding the scandals . His own dragnet is going out wide whether it is small fries or big predators sharks that is eating right out from his hand as the big dramatic impact can change and rattle the system. It is systemic , never at all seen in the country.

  • I think Zeti just got thrown under a bus. Jibby grasping at straws! I guess as an intelligent woman, she would have been well aware of what was happening, and being literate would have had access to the news regarding 1MDB and what was going where. What she tried to do about it and when will all come out in the wash very soon.
