PNB chairman Zeti Akhtar Aziz said she will issue a response to claims by former prime minister Najib Razak that she was aware that RM2.6 billion was transferred into his bank accounts in 2013.
“I’m not going to comment now but at some point, you will get the comment,” the former Bank Negara chief told reporters at Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur today.
Yesterday, Najib said he was not worried about the RM2.6 billion stashed in his bank accounts in 2013 because its existence was known to Zeti, who did not query him about it.
“But nothing of that sort happened,” he was quoted as saying.
Zeti, who is also a member of the Council of Eminent Persons, was the central bank governor when it was revealed that RM2.6 billion had been deposited into Najib’s bank accounts.
Najib is under investigation for misappropriation and laundering of funds siphoned off 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the state investor he established when he became prime minister in 2009.
He has maintained that the billions found were a donation from a member of the Saudi royal family and that the money has since been returned to the donor. – July 3, 2018.
