TENGKU Razaleigh Hamzah said he hoped his rival for the Umno president’s post, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was correct in predicting Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) implosion.
“Let’s pray for that to happen soon,” the 81-year-old Gua Musang MP said in Penang today after meeting local Umno members in Seberang Jaya.
“That’s why we need to ready ourselves to get Umno together and make it a strong force.”
Zahid recently said he was confident Umno would return to Putrajaya soon without needing a general election because the PH government was unstable and would collapse in the near future.
“If the eventuality happens as Zahid is suggesting, and there is a need to change the government, we have to be ready to take over or participate,” Tengku Razaleigh said.
“For heaven’s sake we must get ready.”
Zahid had been speaking to Federal Territory Umno members at a recent Hari Raya event.
Interim party president was accused by PH lawmakers as fishing for votes in his bid for the president’s seat.
Asked if he thought Zahid made the statement to fish votes from party delegates, Tengku Razaleigh said, “Possible. I don’t know. You have to ask him.”
He and Zahid are among five people gunning for the Umno presidency. The other prominent contestant is former youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin. – June 27, 2018.
