Small error, Dr Mahathir says of Guan Eng’s Mandarin statement

FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng’s issuance of statements in Mandarin was a minor mistake, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

The 93-year old said the issue should not be politicised as Lim was catering to the Chinese community.

“It was a minor mistake. Do not make it an issue. Sometimes we make mistakes. For the Chinese, he issues statements in Chinese. That is all,” Dr Mahathir said in a press conference today.

The Finance Ministry began issuing statements in Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Mandarin soon after Lim was appointed minister last month.

This courted controversy, as several Umno leaders attacked Lim over the use of Mandarin. – June 25, 2018.
