ROSILE Saat, Mohamad Iqbal Maricair and Yusof Musa. These are the three unknown individuals whose names were submitted today for the post of Umno president along with party Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.  

Their names were leaked on social media after nomination closed for the elections on June 30.

Little is known about them but it is learnt that Rosile is active in the civil society scene while Iqbal is part of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM). Yusof is apparently a lawyer.

Rosile is from Umno’s Bangi division in Selangor, Iqbal (Bandar Tun Razak – Kuala Lumpur) and Yusof (Iskandar Puteri – Johor). 

They join four others who officially announced their intention to contest the top post.

These are interim Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, party Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and blogger Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz.

Umno, however, has said the final list of candidates will only be confirmed tomorrow after the party vets them with the Insolvency Department.

Other than the top job, three individuals are contesting the deputy president’s post while nine are vying for one of three vice-presidential posts.

Those vying for the deputy presidency include Umno information chief Annuar Musa and former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan.

Those running for vice-president include Johari Abdul Ghani, Khaled Nordin, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Ahmad Said, Ismail Sabri Yaakop, Shahidan Kassim and Mahadzir Khalid.

Khairy was supposed to contest for a vice-president’s post but pulled out at the eleventh hour to challenge for party presidency instead. –   June 17, 2018.
