KHAIRY Jamaluddin’s last-minute decision to run for Umno president is not to split votes, his representative Megat Firdouz Megat Junid said.

Megat Firdouz had submitted Khairy’s nomination form at the party’s headquarters at Menara Dato Onn in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm today.

“This is not to split votes or to spoil votes. It’s for the good of the party,” he told reporters.

Megat Firdouz also denied that Khairy was trying to pull Umno deputy president candidate Mohamad Hasan into his camp.

“No team. Everyone is in Umno’s team. We are contesting in the Umno grassroots family spirit,” he said.

Previously, Khairy, who is Umno Youth chief, had announced he would run for vice-president.

But today, he confirmed on Twitter that he was going for the top post. He also posted his nomination form in his Instagram account.

The three other leaders contesting for the presidency are acting party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and blogger Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz. – June 17, 2018

  • There is no need to explain or justify. Any Party member can contest any post as long as he/she can get one nomination and one seconder.

  • KJ problem was the older feudal warlords feared his win would sideline them. But they are now split between Zahid Hamidi and Razaleigh. If he can corner the younger members votes,, then he has more than a fighting chance of winning HE HAS SPLIT THE VOTE FOR HIMSELF.
