PUTRAJAYA will look into the practice of those using support letters to get approvals for certain government initiatives or applications, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.
The minister said at the moment they do not know what this practice is about as Pakatan Harapan had just taken over the government.
“So we have to look at it and see how it works,” he said after attending the Tamil Media Association Family Day in Sentul today.
Kulasegaran was commenting on the allegation that a Bersatu member had allegedly used political connections to secure and rent 80 Ramadan bazaar lots in Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur. Each lot was allegedly rented out for as high as RM5,000 each.
Kulasegaran said they do not have any clear guidelines to see how the approvals are being done.
Bukit Bintang Bersatu Youth chief Mohd Noorhisyam Abdul Karim came under the spotlight recently after allegations surfaced that he “forced” City Hall Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department director Anwar Mohd Zain to approve his application for the lots when there were no more available.
Anwar was quoted as saying that he was forced to give in after Noorhisyam’s relentless “pestering” and a support letter by Bukit Bintang lawmaker Fong Kui Lun.
Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman urged police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the allegation.
“If there are elements of bribery and abuse of power, I ask that the MACC and police investigate the matter,” he tweeted. – June 15, 2018.
