AMID talk of Anwar Ibrahim conspiring to unseat Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the two leaders and their wives broke fast together last night at the prime minister’s home in The Mines, Seri Kembagan.

It was a private affair hosted by Dr Mahathir, who had personally extended the invitation to the PKR leader instead of through Anwar’s wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is the deputy prime minister.

A party source said Dr Mahathir issued the invitation on Sunday. Anwar had also mentioned the invitation to The Malaysian Insight in an interview on Monday.

Anwar said he no longer had issues with Dr Mahathir, and the persistent talk of animosity between the two of them was because that there were those out to drive a wedge between them.

Anwar’s recent audience with several Malay rulers was rumoured to be an attempt to get their support for him to be prime minister before the two years that had been agreed upon were up.

There has also been talk within Umno as well as Pakatan Harapan that PKR and its 49 MPs are working to form an alliance with BN and PAS lawmakers to form an Islamic state.

Anwar has dismissed such talk.

“People who think this way are either mad or have evil minds,” he said in the interview.

“We fought hard. I was beaten half to death for fighting to change the system. What is the point for me now to conspire in such a manner?” – June 6, 2018.

  • Who are we kidding. WE KNOW both Anwar and Mahathir did wrong to each other. THAT they both now have put it aside, acknowledge the importance of their country and common agenda, says they are true Malaysian and real politicians that deserve respect. So long as they do not let old scores get in the way, be wary many want to exploit the old scores, the country will treat both of them well and in history.

  • I trust in Tun and Irust in Anwar. Thay now need each other. Forget the past and look forward. Politics of those days should be forgotten. Yes, a few blogs are trying to wedge a war between these two. These are irresponsible blogs... cheapskates. They are also being helped by some umno desperados. It won't work.
