A DAP assemblyman and councillor in Penang lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today, urging the agency to investigate alleged misappropriation of funds in the Human Resources Development Fund.
M. Satees, the Bagan Dalam assemblyman, and Seberang Prai municipal councillor P. David Marshel, said levies collected from employers have been misused.
“We learned of these alleged misappropriations in 2016. We have collected information from several reliable whistle-blowers, including HRDF insiders.
“They claimed that a top executive even used HRDF funds to invest in real estate worth RM155 million and got himself a free condo unit,” David told reporters outside the MACC office in Butterworth.
“Today, we are passing the information to MACC. We hope MACC will investigate this immediately and thoroughly because we believe hundreds of millions had been misused.”
The HRDF is an agency set up in 1993 under the Human Resources Ministry and collects levy from employers for skills training.
He added that the MACC report would also be forwarded to the Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran for the ministry’s further attention and action.
David added that ongoing and new contracts by HRDF should be put on hold, pending investigations.
Both David and Satees did not name any individual from HRDF in the press conference. They said the names are in their report. – June 1, 2018.
