INDIAN voters will not listen to the call to boycott the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on Saturday, Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.

He said he was sure the Indians in the state seat would give their full support to PH candidate Pang Sock Tao.

“Although certain quarters are asking the Indian community to remain neutral and not vote, I don’t think they will easily take the bait.

“I am very confident that Indian voters will act wisely for their future and wellbeing by electing a representative of the unity government on May 11,” Saifuddin was reported as saying after meeting with leaders of the Indian community in Hulu Selangor.

More than 100 Indian community leaders, consisting of NGO representatives, political parties and parent-teacher associations, attended the meeting.

Some Indian parties have urged Indian voters not to vote for Pang to send a message to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim not to continue to ignore the plight of the community.

Urimai chairman P. Ramasamy, formerly of DAP, has urged Indians to vote for anyone other than the PH candidate..

The by-election is a four-cornered fight between Pang, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional/Bersatu), Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM) and independent Nyau Ke Xin.

The KKB constituency has a mixed electorate of Malays (53.4%), Chinese (30.5%), and Indians (15.82%). The remainder is made up of Orang Asli and others.

There are 40,226 registered voters in KKB; Indian voters number 6,362 and could decide the outcome of the election. – May 9, 2024.
