THE personal bodyguard who was shot while protecting his employer at the arrival terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 remains unconscious and is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow, his wife Siti Noraida Hassan said.

Siti Noraida said her husband Muhammad Nur Hadith, who is better known as Along, remains sedated as his condition remains unstable at the Cyberjaya Hospital.

He was shot in the abdomen during a shooting incident at 1.30am yesterday morning while protecting his employer, Farah Md Isa, better known as Farah Cie.

The shooter has been identified as Farah’s husband, 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi. 

“The bullet struck his (Nur Hadith’s) intestines and the bleeding has not ceased. I was informed that the doctor is waiting for the bleeding to stop and that he stabilises before going ahead with the surgery tomorrow.

“For the time being, my husband remains in critical condition and is unconscious,” Noraida was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.

During the incident, the suspect Hafizul fired two shots at his wife at the entrance of the arrival hall but missed, with one of the shots hitting the bodyguard.

The suspect fled in a car parked at level two of Block C.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan had said that the incident originated from personal issues and was unrelated to terrorist activities or groups.

Hussein also told reporters today that police believe Hafizul was still in the country and still has possession of the gun.

He urged Hafizul to surrender to the police peacefully.

Hafizul is already under investigation following reports lodged against him for threatening his wife.

Based on that, he was previously arrested and remanded for three days.

Hussein said police had submitted the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor on that case but were given additional instructions.

“Because of that incident, the wife hired bodyguards,” he told reporters.

He also clarified that an interim protection order for the wife was not issued as investigations into the case did not warrant such an action.

Hussein said that investigations did not indicate that the threats would escalate to a shooting.

“That case is still ongoing and investigations need to be completed before it can be handed over to the DPP for charging.

“Each domestic violence investigation has stages and procedures. Only when we have obtained sufficient statements can we obtain an interim order and so forth. We cannot simply obtain interim orders for (Penal Code) Section 506 cases.”

Hussein also said that police did not engage with Hafizul at KLIA as they were concerned about the safety of civilians in the area.

“If police had engaged with the suspect, the situation could be worse,” he said.

Police, meanwhile, will intensify the search for Hafizul, said new Penang deputy police chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.

“I will look into how we can step up our checks, roadblocks, and surveillance,” he said in George Town today. – April 15, 2024.
