Cops believe Kuantan KK Mart attack work of one person

KUANTAN police believe the Molotov cocktail attack on the KK Mart outlet in Sg Isap was the work of one person, and are tracking down the suspect.

The attack happened on March 30.

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu was reported as saying in Bernama that this was based on an examination of several closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) recordings around the scene.

“Efforts to track down the suspect are underway, and we will also examine other CCTV footage to assist in the investigation into the incident,” he said.

Wan Mohd Zahari urged those with information about the case to come forward to help in investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

Three KK Mart outlets had been targets of petrol bomb attacks so far following outrage over the “Allah” socks issue.

The latest incident happened in Kuching, Sarawak, on Sunday.

The first attack happened at a KK Mart store in Perak on March 26.

So far, no arrests have been made but police are investigating the attacks.

Meanwhile, Kuching district police chief Ahsmon Bajah said police are hunting for those behind the latest attack.

“We have already received a report on the incident that happened at Jalan Satok KK Mart on March 31.

“The front of the shop was affected by fire after the Molotov cocktail was thrown onto boxes containing mineral water bottles at the store front.

“We are probing the case under Section 435 of the Penal Code for causing public mischief by arson,” he said.

KK Mart has been under the spotlight after socks bearing the word “Allah” were found being sold at one of its outlets in Bandar Sunway.

Its founder KK Chai and his wife Loh Siew Mui, who is the company director, have claimed trial in court to a charge of wounding religious feelings. – April 3, 2024.
