Israeli gunman to be charged tomorrow


ISRAELI national Shalom Avitan, who was arrested with six pistols and 200 bullets in a hotel last month, will be charged tomorrow, the New Straits Times reports.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the man will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court.

Avitan was arrested at a Kuala Lumpur hotel on March 27. He has said that he was in Malaysia to kill another Israeli citizen over a family dispute.

On Monday, a couple accused of supplying firearms to Avitan faced charges at the Klang sessions court.

Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin was charged under section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act for possessing a 9mm CZ 75 pistol. 

Her husband, Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin was charged under section 9 of the same act for being aware of her possession of the gun.

The alleged offences took place on March 29 in Kampung Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor. 

Both pleaded not guilty. If convicted, they could each face up to 14 years in prison and whipping. 

It was reported that the police had arrested 16 people as part of their investigations into the case. – April 11, 2024.
