TWO siblings were charged in the magistrate’s court today with murdering a man. 

Brothers P. Jagdeeshraj, 20, and P. Vasantharaj, 21, along with three others still at large, were charged with murdering Muhammad Syafiq Abd Latif, 25, at the intersection of Jalan Trus-Jalan Ungku Puan at 1.08am on October 27. 

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the death sentence or imprisonment of not less than 30 years but not more than 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. 

The two brothers nodded after the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Nurul Farahah Mohd Suah, but no plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court. 

The court then set March 6 for mention to obtain the post-mortem and medical reports. 

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Nevina, while the two accused were unrepresented. – Bernama, January 4, 2024.
