TERENGGANU Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar’s victory in Kemaman, which is a stronghold of PAS, was not a feat, the finance minister’s political secretary Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said.

He brushed aside PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s statement that Samsuri’s victory yesterday proved the people’s support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

“Winning in one’s own stronghold is not extraordinary. (Barisan Nasional’s victory in) Pelangai previously was not counted as a ‘referendum’ either. It would be different if (PN) won in Subang,” he said on X tonight.

Kamil said he hoped Samsuri’s win would prompt the parliamentary opposition into action as the bench’s supporters had high hopes for him.

Yesterday, PAS retained Kemaman after Samsuri won the by-election, obtaining 64,998 votes in a straight fight with BN candidate Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor (27,778 votes). – Bernama, December 3, 2023.
