BUKIT Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal today declared his support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.

He is the fifth MP from Bersatu to back the unity government.

Syed Abu Hussin told the Dewan Rakyat during proceedings this morning that he now supports Anwar’s government.

“Speaking for myself, I’m ready to assist the government in building a Madani community, and toward addressing the issue of rising cost of living.

“I hereby announce that Bukit Gantang supports Tambun (Anwar) as the 10th prime minister and his Madani government. Thank you,” he said.

Syed Abu Hussin also urged former prime ministers Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) and Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera-BN) to help Anwar in building the nation.

Previously, four other Bersatu MPs have declared their support for Anwar.

They are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

These MPs have all said that they are supporting the unity government so that development funds are available for their constituencies.

Bersatu has complained that the government was enticing its MPs with offers and threats.

With the support from Syed Abu Hussin, Anwar has the backing of 152 MPs.

At the PKR congress over the weekend, Anwar denied buying the support of opposition MPs.

“When they sought to meet me, I told them to make a decision (to support the government) before meeting me,” he said in his closing speech at the PKR national congress.

Earlier today, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the unity government was committing bribery in the form of constituency allocations.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Dr Mahathir said the opposition MPs who have declared their support for Anwar were receiving allocations typically reserved for government MPs.

“The Bersatu MPs also acknowledged receiving other offerings. This is considered as corruption because those who do not support the prime minister do not receive them,” he said. – November 28, 2023
