Muda has no plans to join Perikatan Nasional, its secretary-general Amir Hadi says. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, September 16, 2023.

MUDA does not intend to join Perikatan Nasional (PN), as suggested by Gerakan president Dominic Lau, its secretary-general Amir Hadi said.

He said the Muda Central Executive Committee has never discussed the party’s participation in PN.

“Muda has also never sent any application either officially or unofficially to join PN.

“Any statement relating to the party’s participation in PN is not from us and does not represent Muda,” he said in a statement.

Sinar Harian reported earlier that Gerakan will bring a proposal to the PN supreme council meeting regarding their intention to bring Muda into the coalition.

Lau said the idea came about after Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman announced the party’s decision to withdraw support for the unity government.

Amir said their commitment is to strengthen the third force in Malaysian politics.

“To be a check and balance to the government, and at the same time reject the extreme use of racial and religious issues for political interests and purposes.” – September 16, 2023.
