POLICE have arrested Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin.

The political activist, better known as Chegubard, was nabbed outside PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.

The matter was confirmed to The Malaysian Insight by Perikatan Nasional (PN) youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

“I was informed that Chegubard was arrested outside the PAS office in KL.

“I’m not sure of the reason behind it as I’m not in KL to confirm the matter,” he said.

Badrul is a member of the “Save Malaysia” assembly secretariat, a gathering to protest the controversial decision by the prosecution to withdraw all 47 corruption charges in the graft trial of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The gathering was slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur on September 16.

Meanwhile, police confirmed the arrest of Badrul and said it was not linked to the rally.

The police in a statement said the case was based on a video posted on Tik Tok, which allegedly shows a man nicknamed Che GuBard issuing a statement on the Malaysia-Indonesian border conflict negotiations.

He is alleged to have said that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had submitted the Ambalat block in the Sulawesi Sea to Indonesia.

The Ambalat block, a 15,000 square kilometre area in the midst of the territorial dispute off the coast of Sabah, holds the world’s largest crude oil reserves and has been defended by Malaysia for a long time.

“Police arrested Badrul at Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur after obtaining a warrant from the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court following his refusal to cooperate with the cops after being summoned to assist in investigations,” the police statement read.

Police said Badrul is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police also confirmed that a total of five investigation papers have been opened against Badrul since June this year. – September 14, 2023.
