CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the sedition charges against him will affect his chances in the state elections.

Sanusi said he is facing two charges over his talks in Selayang on July 11 and the court issued a gag order not to talk about the cases.

“Their purpose is to impact my chances in the state polls. It looks like in Malaysia we can’t say anything. If we are in the political field, we solve all our problems there.

“In the field we will counter the arguments, but today in this country we have a scared government.

“They are using the police to stop or block our speech. This is a sign the government is scared,” he told reporters at the Selayang Sessions Court after he was charged.

Earlier, Sanusi claimed trial to two charges of sedition.

In the first charge, he was accused of making a seditious comment regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.

Sanusi, 48, allegedly incited discontent or disaffection among the subjects of the ruler by making the remarks.

In a separate court before judge Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh, Sanusi, who is Perikatan Nasional election director, also denied making seditious remarks in relation to the king.

Sanusi was reported to have questioned if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had indeed decreed that a unity government be formed after the November general election.

Both offences were allegedly committed at the same ceramah in Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kg Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11.

With the charges brought against him, Sanusi is confident Malaysians will be able to see through the government’s true intentions.

“The administration’s true intent is to bring the charges against me within three days.

“I was taken away at 3am without any notice. I only knew from the media that I would be charged. I’m ready to face these cases.

“I already relayed to some people that I will attend court this morning but they proceeded to arrest me.”

Sanusi added he had fully cooperated with the investigation. – July 18, 2023.

  • Even if he gets elected into state legislature I dont think the Sultan is going to be inclined to approve his MB position. He has destroyed his own credibility with his lack of discretion.
