PRIME Minister Najib Razak today offered more assistance to the Indian community ahead of the general election, promising various measures in education and community development.
Speaking at an event by Indian Malaysian civil society group MyNadi Foundation, he said Putrajaya was looking at ways to increase the number of Indian students in public universities to reach a 7% target of Indian youths in universities.
“I would like to feel that we can move ahead together as one nation, that there is hope for all of us.
“Under the present leadership, we will continue to help the Indian community find its rightful place in this country.
“I hope you know what to do when the time comes,” he said at the event in Putrajaya today.
He told the crowd of about 250 people that the government would ensure the Indian community had access to quality education and strong family values to overcome their problems.
Indians, a minority ethnic group in Malaysia, comprise about two million of the population, with a significant number of them in the B40 category or bottom 40% of households earning not more than RM3,855 a month.
Najib reminded the crowd that the government had added 1.5 billion units in Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M) for Indians in the B40 group to invest in. Sale of the units began on January 29 and the prime minister said he would officially launch the scheme on April 7.
He also announced a RM1 million allocation to complete the construction of the Gandhi Memorial Hall in Sungai Petani.
The prime minister said the High Commissioner of India had also donated RM700,000 for the hall’s construction as well.
“We must ensure that government policies and programmes are inclusive in nature and are fair as possible to ensure that no Malaysian will be left behind.
“In our efforts to ensure that our development will touch the lives of every single individual and that development is all encompassing and inclusive, we need not only the government and political parties, but also a third force, namely the civil society groups,” he said.
In April last year, Najib announced that some RM1 billion would be committed to the 10-year Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB), which focuses on improving the current state of the Indian community in the country.
Budget 2018, which Najib tabled in October last year, introduced new initiatives for the Indian community amounting to RM1.5 billion in the form of additional units of Amanah Saham 1Malaysia, which is limited to 30,000 units per investor. – March 24, 2018.

First the all races supported the government , and when this happened , indians thought : “screw this , if we are all one , I am going to be the smallest part of the one , and that I cannot accept “ and so the Indians decided to pack their bags , split the government and become the most important part of the opposition .
With the Indians gone, the Chinese in the government went: “screw this , with the Indians gone , I am the smallest part of the goverment , I cannot accept this “, and the Chinese also decided to pack their bags , split from the government and join the opposition with the Indians .
With the chinese gone, half the malays in the government went : "Screw this, with the chinese gone, i feel small compared to the other half", so half the malays also packed their bags , split the government and joined the opposition with the chinese and the indians.
Now that the Chinese and the malays joined the opposition , the Indians will i am sure go : “ screw this , now I am no longer the most important part of the oppostion, “ and decide to return back to the goverment.
Najib doing all this for the indians is not the reason why the indians will return to the government. The indians were already going to return to the government because the indians don't feel important in the opposition. Najib and his "gifts" will only to serve to hasten their return, but it is not the cause of their return.
This is the true malaysian story.
