THE seventh witness in the trial of preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew or Ebit Lew told the Tenom magistrate’s court that one of the pictures shown in court today, analysed from a mobile phone, was a screenshot taken in a chat app.

Bukit Aman senior audio video analyst Latifah Abdul Aziz, 43, said from her analysis, the image, believed to be sexual in nature, was not taken using a mobile phone camera.

She said the mobile phone also automatically generates a file name according to the date the screenshot was taken.

“If the picture using a mobile phone camera, the path (in the mobile phone file structure) will be different, and there will be a folder called ‘DCIM’ (where the picture is stored).

“While for this picture (screenshot), the folder does not exist,” she said during the examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad today.

Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani later set June 21 to 23 for trial to resume.

Ebit Lew, 37, faces 11 charges, including insulting the modesty of a woman in her 40s by sending obscene words and pictures to the victim’s phone number via WhatsApp between March and June 2021.

The charge, under section 509 of the penal code, carries a maximum five years’ jail, a fine or both. – Bernama, May 12, 2023.
