BATANG Kali incumbent Harumaini Omar has threatened to take legal action against the speaker of the Selangor assembly if he refuses to withdraw his declaration of the Batang Kali seat being vacant.
He said Speaker Ng Suee Lim had made a mistake in saying that the former Bersatu member had not attended the state assembly for more than six months.
He explained that the period of his absence from the council should have been counted from November 23 last year and not July 27 as claimed by Lim.
“Therefore, Ng has to withdraw the declaration within three days starting today.”
“If no answer and positive feedback is received from the honourable speaker, then I will consider the appropriate legal decision,” said Harumaini in a statement today.
Yesterday, Ng declared the Batang Kali seat vacant.
In a statement, he said Harumaini, who is with Pejuang, had not attended a sitting for more than six months and had not applied for leave to be absent.
Ng said the assembly attendance records showed that July 27, 2022 was the last time Harumaini attended a sitting.
He added that a notice would be sent to the Election Commission declaring that the Batang Kali seat was now vacant.
Harumaini won the seat on a Bersatu ticket in the 2018 general election with an 8,315-vote majority. He later moved to Pejuang. – February 17, 2023.
