THE Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) will be checking on the status of aid for flood victims that was promised by the previous federal government, Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan said.
He said based on information from the village heads in Hulu Langat, about 1,300 victims in three areas have yet to receive compensation.
“We will present a list of those who have yet to receive the aid to the ICU at the end of the month,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
“We want the ICU to check on the status of their applications and the reasons they have not got the aid.”
Flood victims in Taman Sri Nanding are asking about the RM5,000 aid that was promised by the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration more than a year ago.
It was reported on December 31, 2021 that aid from the ICU of the Prime Minister’s Department would be channelled to district and land offices before it is distributed to the recipients.

Sany said his officer, who attended a briefing with the Selangor ICU director on Wednesday, was told that those who have applied for the aid have already received the payments.
“However, the problem is that some have yet to receive it,” he said.
“We were told by the director that what was confirmed (recipient details) to have been received by the flood operation control centre was used to release the payment.
“The issue is that the former prime minister (Ismail) said all will get up to RM5,000. But the Hulu Langat District Council did not get any specific criteria (on the aid).”
Sany said other agencies also gave out aid, so there could be duplicate applications.
“The director also informed us that the applications for aid closed last February,” he said.
“So we have decided that the list of those who did not receive the aid will be cross-checked with the Selangor ICU database.”
The affected residents are hoping that the new government will help them get the promised compensation.
Taman Sri Nanding Rukun Tetangga chairman Mohd Rozelan Alias has claimed that only 80% of the 1,300 families have received the aid.
Heavy rain on December 18 and 19, 2021 caused widespread flooding in the Klang Valley.
Hulu Langat was one of the worst-affected areas with water levels reaching rooftops while houses close to rivers were swept away by strong currents. – January 13, 2023.
