HULU Langat lawmaker Sany Hamzan is asking Putrajaya for answers regarding RM5,000 in aid promised to Taman Sri Nanding flood victims by the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration more than a year ago.

The newly elected lawmaker said he had met with Taman Sri Nanding residents to discuss the issue.

“We want to know what the status (of the compensation) is? It’s been a year.

“What happened to the RM5,000 that was promised in 2021 by the government then?

“I have already contacted the village head on the matter. We will try to expedite this process,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Sany said he will be meeting with the Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) director next week to discuss the matter.

It was reported on December 31, 2021, that aid from the Prime Minister’s Department ICU would be channelled to district and land offices before it is distributed to recipients.

Former prime minister Ismail had said the aid would cover the purchase of essential goods amounting to RM2,500; vehicle repair discounts; rebate of RM500 for the purchase of electrical goods; and home repair assistance of between RM5,000 and RM15,000 for damage caused by the disaster.

About a fifth of the flood victims in Taman Sri Nanding are still waiting for their compensation from Putrajaya, a year after their homes were destroyed.

They said they were supposed to get up to RM 5,000 from the federal government.

The affected residents are hoping that the new government will help them and ensure the promised aid reaches them.

Taman Sri Nanding Rukun Tetangga chairman Mohd Rozelan Alias claimed only 80% of the 1,300 families have received the compensation.

Sany said residents who have yet to receive the flood aid deserve an explanation.

“Some said their forms were incomplete and other matters. We don’t know what’s happening, so we need to find out.”

Dusun Tua assemblyman Edry Faizal said he tried raising the matter to the Selangor ICU, but to no avail.

Edry said after a meeting with Taman Sri Nanding residents last year, he found that about 300 people had not received their compensation.

“I contacted the ICU in July and it said some of the residents were not following certain conditions to receive the aid, while others were not registered in their database.”

He said he met ICU representatives again in August, where he learnt the compensation had still not been disbursed.

“Our communication with the ICU ended in September when the officer in charge said the unit no longer handled the issue.

“They asked us to contact Nadma (The National Disaster Management Agency), but Nadma doesn’t handle aid.

“Then the government (Ismail’s administration) that promised the aid was dissolved.”

Edry hopes the new government will take appropriate actions and disburse the remaining aid. – January 8, 2023.
