Pakatan to implement manifesto at state level, even if it doesn't win Putrajaya

PAKATAN Harapan will implement its national manifesto in states that it wins in the 14th general election, even if it fails to capture Putrajaya, said Saifuddin Abdullah.

The PH chief secretary said each state will also have a localised “mini-manifesto” to cater to its specific needs.

“It (national manifesto) will be applied across the board.

“The manifesto is our commitment, come what may, regardless of whether we are registered as a pact,” he said, referring to PH’s application to be registered as an official coalition.

He confirmed that a two-term limit for top posts in the PH government will be introduced, but will start only after GE14.

PH said it will take only 100 days for the pact to put in place 10 major policy changes, should it be voted into government in the next general election.

In its soon-to-be-released manifesto, the pact has listed down areas of change that it will prioritise, as it seeks to address the people’s economic woes, and reform public institutions and policies.

The PH Buku Harapan, or Book of Hope, is scheduled to be announced tomorrow, and will be divided into five main sections – reducing the people’s burden and cost of living; reforming institutions and policies; spurring a sustainable economy; giving rights to Sabahans and Sarawakians according to the Malaysia Agreement 1963; and, creating a moderate and inclusive Malaysia.

“The pledge to impose the two-term limit applies in the respective states where PH comes to power,” said Saifuddin when asked whether the policy will be applied to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who has been holding the post for two terms.

He said the opposition pact will not include a few populist policies, in favour of those that are more doable and practical.

“It’s a practical manifesto. There are things that are populist, but we know it’s not doable in other states.

“But, there are things that people have thought are impossible to do, but we have proven (that they are doable) in Selangor and Penang.”

He said there will be a total of 60 promises in PH’s 201-page manifesto, and they will be fulfilled in five years’ time.

“Ten out of the 60 pledges will be fulfilled in the first 100 days should PH come to power.” – March 7, 2018.
