THE Yang di-Pertuan Agong will have an audience with all 30 Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers tomorrow following another deadlock in the appointment of a prime minister today.

In a statement, the palace said this will allow the king to decide who to appoint as the 10th prime minister after having an audience with them individually.

“His Majesty urges Malaysians to remain patient and calm until the process of forming a new government and the appointment of the 10th prime minister is concluded,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.

Earlier today, the king summoned both Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to the palace after none was able to muster the numbers to form the federal government.

The BN MPs are scheduled to meet the king from 10.30am tomorrow.

Back in 2020, the palace had summoned both BN lawmakers and PH MPs for a one-to-one interview.

The interview with the king was carried out to determine the number of seats for the formation of a new government following the resignation of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister and Bersatu’s action to leave PH, which was part of the coalition.

In Saturday’s general election, PH won 76 seats while its coalition member, Sarawak DAP, garnered five seats and Muda, one, for a total of 82.

PN and PAS won 51 and 22 seats respectively, for a combined total of 73.

BN could only muster 30 seats, with many of the coalition’s leaders becoming casualties.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak claimed 23 seats, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Warisan (3), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1) and Independents (2). – November 22, 2022.
