Rush to send 32,000 overseas ballots to respective states

THE race is on to get overseas ballots to their respective polling stations for the general election, Undi18 programme associate Winsley Ong said.  

He said to date they had received about 32,000 overseas ballots from more than 20 countries.  

Among the countries that had participated in the programme are Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and South Korea.

Ong said that the ballots would be brought back to the respective states by the representatives beginning at 6pm today. 

He said the tallying and collection of ballots were done at the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. 

“The collection for ballots has closed as we have to send it out on time. We have collected about 65% of the total overseas votes. 

“We are tallying the ballots and it will be distributed once the representatives are here,” he told The Malaysian Insight. 

As for Sabah and Sarawak, he said that the ballots would be sent by flight at 6pm.  

“All ballots are placed in a zip lock bag and distributed to the representatives. 

“We expect all the ballots to reach the polling centres by tomorrow morning.” 

Undi18 is in collaboration with VoteMalaysia and more than 10 student bodies internationally to bring back the votes. – November 18, 2022.
