THE Education Ministry, led by senior minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, has failed to address two important issues in the education sector, Pakatan Harapan (PH) said.

The ministry’s decision to scrap the Form 3 Assessment (PT3) and Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) has weakened student motivation, adding that it has also increased the non-teaching workload faced by teachers.

“We commend two initiatives announced by the minister during his address recently, namely increasing the intake for teachers and simplifying the transfer process for educators.

“However, there is still a number of pertinent issues that the ministry has yet to address. It is clear that until today, the goals set by the Education Ministry are still uncertain,” the PH education committee said, referring to the PT3 and UPSR.

The committee said that these issues have to be resolved so as to not to erode teacher motivation.

“All students have the right to receive equal education but the ministry has failed to address the issues.

The statement was signed by Dr Maszlee Malik as PH education steering committee chairman, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Hasan Bahrom, Teo Nie Ching, Natrah Ismail, Steven Sim, Rusnah Aluai and V. Sivakumar. – September 24, 2022.
