EXPECT more false statements and ludicrous remarks by Umno leaders about the opposition ahead of the general election, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir said.
The latest one, he said, was Prime Minister Najib Razak’s statement today that Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad would not hand over the prime minister’s post to Anwar Ibrahim if the opposition coalition wins the general election.
“For example, this statement by the prime minister, whose credibility is zero by now, so no one takes him seriously,” Mukhriz said at a press conference in Bersatu’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.
Najib had said that Dr Mahathir, who has been endorsed as PH’s prime minister candidate, would not hand over the post as he regarded other leaders incapable.
Dr Mahathir previously said he will be prime minister for two years at the most should PH win the 14th general election.
When asked whether his father would keep his promise, Mukhriz said, “Of course, he has been proven to not take his words lightly.
“He says what he means, he means what he says,” the former Kedah MB said.
Mukhriz said other false statements Umno leaders have made include claims that opposition leaders would contest under the DAP banner, or that he (Mukriz) would be contesting in Selangor.
On February 4, Dr Mahathir was asked by reporters to confirm rumours that his son, Mukhriz, will be contesting a state seat in Selangor.
“I don’t know that. He will be contesting but I don’t know where,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama. – February 23, 2018.
