ANOTHER death in custody has been reported – the 15th case of custodial death this year – at a Kajang district police station lock-up.

Bukit Aman’s Integrity Department director Azri Ahmad said the incident that occurred yesterday involved a 45-year-old man who suffered seizures in the lock-up.

“The 45-year-old died yesterday after he was ‘seen to be having seizures’ by staff on duty,” said Azri.

The man died on the way to hospital.

The man had been charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was held at the Kajang police station before being sent to the Beranang police station to be remanded.

Just four days ago, a 42-year-old detainee died in police custody in Pahang, the 14th death in custody so far.

Police in a statement said the man died at the centralised lock-up in Indera Mahkota on Monday.

The detainee was given medicine for tuberculosis yesterday evening and found unconscious about an hour later.

He was then brought to Kuantan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The detainee was locked up on March 21, after being sentenced to eight years’ jail under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was due to attend another hearing on Tuesday after being charged under Section 12(2) of the same act. – April 14, 2022.
