POLICE have confirmed receiving a report on the death of a detainee at the Seberang Perai Selatan police headquarters in Penang today.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department deputy director Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the 59-year-old man was detained under sections 12(3) and 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“He was arrested yesterday and should have been brought to court for remand order today.”

The department’s death in custody investigations unit will conduct a probe into the case, he added. – Bernama, March 23, 2022.
