Warisan's crowdfunding app leaves no room for political 'arm-twisting'

WARISAN’S new crowdfunding mobile app has crowded out  possibility of political “arm-twisting, its president Shafie Apdal said.

He said the Perjuangan Rakyat app was developed following many enquiries from supporters wishing to contribute to Warisan’s cause to change the government.

The app, he said, would allow them to donate sum they could afford, “voluntarily” and “willingly”

“We know there are many who want to donate to us so we are giving them the platform to do so, and in any amount that (will not cause them to) feel burdened..

“They can do so without having their identity known; even (contributions) as small as 50 sen count,” Shafie said at the launch of the mobile app today.

“The money donated goes directly into the party account, which will be audited for everyone to see what Warisan has used the money for.”

The Semporna MP said Warisan was a small party that could not compete in terms of funding with the ruling government, which could afford to give cash handouts such as BR1M to secure votes.

Shafie said app users could also get the latest news  on Warisan and the country, as well as respond to the party’s polls on issues affecting Malaysians.

“The results of the polls will help Warisan to (plan) development or policies.”

He said the app would also enable the party to receive feedback and suggestions from the people.

“(For example, the suggestion) I received to set up a tyre factory in Beaufort, due to the large number of rubber tappers in the district if (Warisan) formed the next government.”

Warisan, he said, was looking beyond ousting Barisan Nasional to form a state government that would create more jobs for Sabahans.

Warisan’s deputy president Darell Leiking, secretary Loretto Padua Jr, treasurer Terrence Siambun, newly-appointed information chief Jake Nointin and Youth chief Azis Jamman were present at the launch. – February 12, 2018.
