MUDA has performed well in its first run at a state election, president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said tonight, as the party captured the Puteri Wangsa seat.

He said, despite being new to elections and its underdog status, he said that the party had a good run and did not lose its deposit in the seats that it lost.

“Muda performed well and did not lose any deposit.

“It is not easy, especially when Muda has to use its own logo, which is still unknown,” he said at a press conference held at Le Grandeur Palm Resort in Johor.

Muda contested in seven seats: Puteri Wangsa, Larkin, Parit Raja, Bukit Kepong, Machap, Tenang and Bukit Permai.

The Muar MP said that candidates and campaigners will continue working on the ground, even in the constituencies they lost.

“Muda will continue working on the ground and continue being an effective opposition to maintain checks and balances.”

Syed Saddiq was joined by Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya who won in Puteri Wangsa.

“It was not easy to contest in Puteri Wangsa, because people did not know the logo, but with the help of the grassroots we managed to gain the trust of the people,” she said.

“This is only the start of my service in Puteri Wangsa, I have high hopes to develop the area alongside the people.”

She said she was proud of the party, given that the seats in which they contested were not easy.

“Although we are new and feature new faces, we put up a good fight.

“There are a lot of things that need to be analysed post-election, it will be shared in due course.” – March 12, 2022.
