DEWAN Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has allowed a special motion to discuss Monday’s flash floods in Kuala Lumpur today.

The motion was put forward by Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang-PH).

“Many cars were trapped causing damage to the vehicles. Kuala Lumpur City Hall has to ensure (the security of) all the rivers. It has to promptly address the issue of recurring floods,” Fong said, adding that the floods had inundated many places in the city centre.

Azhar replied the incident was specific, of public interest and needed to be hastened.

“Therefore, I allow this motion to be discussed today, between 1pm to 2pm,” he said.

To allow the debate, which would be held during the lunch break, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar moved that the proceedings continue. – March 9, 2022.
