POLICE have reported another death in custody in Kota Baru, Kelantan, which comes days after another man died in a lockup in Taiping, Perak.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Azri Ahmad said the death occurred at the Pengkalan Chepa police station at 4.35pm yesterday.

“The department’s death in custody investigation unit will be probing this case,” he said.

Azri said the victim, a 37-year-old man, was arrested for drug offences and was under police remand from yesterday. The remand order was supposed to end on Wednesday.

Azri said the victim was being investigated under sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession and consumption of illicit drugs.

The latest death comes four days after a 63-year-old man died at the Taiping district police headquarters while awaiting a court hearing last Friday.

The victim was charged with motor vehicle theft and causing injury using a weapon on April 18 last year.

Following the death, two police officers and two inmates were arrested and remanded until Thursday.

The victims were 42 Malays, 13 Chinese, 15 Indians and 12 foreigners. – January 17, 2022.
