PERAK assemblyman Terence Naidu claimed his drink at a karaoke lounge was spiked and that he has an eye witness who can back the claim.

The DAP Pasir Bedamar representative said he had lodged a police report detailing his claim soon after his release from police custody yesterday.

The two-term assemblyman said an eyewitness who had seen his drink being refilled had also lodged a police report.

“I intend to defend myself to prove my innocence. Needless to say, many have jumped to the conclusion that I must be guilty. Nothing has changed, and I shall carry out my duties to my electorate and will stand by my position that drugs have and will always be a social issue, while continuing the fight against this,” he said in a statement which was posted on his Facebook page.

Naidu was arrested on Thursday night at a karaoke lounge in Perai after he allegedly tested positive for drug use, police sources said.

He was detained along with 35 others at a KTV in Megamall Perai.

According to his police report, Naidu said he was invited to meet with friends, who were also his clients, for a Chinese New Year dinner in Penang.

“Upon reaching Perai, I was taken to the location of my arrest. I was hesitant to enter the premises at first but eventually did so.

“I did not take any illegal substance. I was shocked when I was told my urine tested positive as I don’t even smoke.

“I was poured an unusual drink that I didn’t consume after tasting it.

“I subsequently found out the following day that while I was in the restroom, someone had come to my table and topped up my drinking glass,” it said.

Earlier, Penang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said police are completing their investigation into the state representative who allegedly tested positive for drugs during a raid at an entertainment centre in Perai two days ago.

“The assemblyman was freed on police bail last night and we are now waiting for the pathologist’s report before sending the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor next week,” he said. – January 15, 2022.
