2,589 new Covid-19 cases

THE number of new Covid-19 infections in the country dropped to 2,589 from 3,108 yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted. 

The last time daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia fell below the 3,000 mark was on May 3, when 2,500 infections were reported.

The new cases bring the total number of Covid-19 infections recorded in the country to 2,721,544. 

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this afternoon that the ministry is expecting more Covid-19 infections after detecting 181 new cases among flood victims at evacuation centres. 

Noor Hisham also tweeted today that the infectivity rate in the country yesterday was 0.92, with Penang and Pahang remaining highest at 1.00. 

Sarawak, which just had its state elections, was lowest among all states and territories at 0.74.
