PKR is confident that delays in seat allocation talks with its Pakatan Harapan allies in a few states will be resolved before the deadline this Wednesday, the party’s secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said today.
The state-level leadership will first work at reaching an agreement and only bring the matter to the central leadership if it fails to do so, he told reporters at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
“I believe Selangor is also in the same process at the moment. At the state level, it does not require the involvement of the central leadership.
“So I’m convinced (and) optimistic that negotiations in Selangor can be resolved in time,” he said.
It was reported yesterday that PKR was holding up seat negotiations in Selangor and Penang.
In Selangor, only PKR is insisting that formal negotiations have started while DAP, Amanah and Bersatu have said a proper committee has not even been set up to discuss seat negotiations.
In Penang, it is learnt that PKR is looking for a bigger share of the seats, which may even include seats already held by DAP.
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali earlier today said the party had identified its list of candidates and seats for Selangor, but confirmed that discussions with other opposition partners have yet to be concluded.
He denied, however, that there was an impasse with other PH parties.
The opposition pact has decided that Bersatu will contest 52 federal seats, PKR 51 seats, DAP 35 seats, and Amanah 27 seats in the 14th general election, and is now in the process of deciding which seats will be contested by the respective parties. – January 29, 2018.
