MCA is prepared to face the fierce campaigning of Pakatan Harapan parties in its strongholds.
Party president Liow Tiong Lai said he welcomed PH to contest wherever they wanted.
Earlier, DAP Johor chairman Liew Chin Tong had said that PH will venture into “enemy territory” with a string of back-to-back events at the MCA-held constituencies of Ayer Hitam and Bentong.
Liow who is Bentong MP said the party is prepared to defend its seats, including Bentong.
Liow said PH was targeting several marginal seats held by BN, and Bentong was one of the opposition’s top priorities.
In the 2003 general election, Liow almost lost the seat to Wong Tack, an environmental activist turned politician.
Liow garnered 25,947 votes to Wong’s 25,568 – a margin of 379 votes or 0.6%. The constituency comprises 45% Malay voters, 44% Chinese and 9% Indian.
PH also said the pact believes it can gain a shock victory in BN stronghold Ayer Hitam.
Meanwhile, Liow confirmed that MCA will stand in Gelang Patah, which was previously “loaned” to Umno.
He said MCA is negotiating to compete for the Wangsa Maju seat.
“Negotiations for seat allocations are going well (Gelang Patah and Wangsa Maju).
“What we have loaned, we can get back,” he said. – January 25, 2018.
