THE recent brutal assault of a security guard should not be about the involvement of a political party member but overall mental health, which could drive someone to act irrationally, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said today.
In urging police to investigate the case thoroughly, Farhash said the violent act must be condemned, but at the same time, the public must respect the legal process and give the authorities time.
He asked the public to remain united despite the nation facing numerous challenges and to help one another in every way possible.
“My deepest condolences to the family. I urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served,” Farhash said.
“The public should also stop sharing the video of the tragic incident as a mark of respect to the family.”
Security guard, 64-year-old Thava Sagayam, was attacked with a table while he was on duty at a condominium in Ipoh on December 29.
Noor Azhar Muhammad, who is reported to be a member of Bersatu’s Kota Baru Youth division, was previously charged under section 335 of the penal code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
He is currently out on bail pending another appearance at the magistrate’s court in Ipoh on September 6.
Perak police yesterday reclassified the case as murder after Thava died at his home in Ipoh on August 27.
It was reported that Thava was assaulted after he refused to allow Noor Azhar’s son to use the condominium swimming pool, which was closed.
Thava was hospitalised after the attack and underwent eight surgeries to his head before he succumbed to a lung infection. – August 31, 2021.
