CIVIL servants who are sacked, demoted or transferred for supporting the opposition will find their situation remedied if Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th general election, said Muhyiddin Yassin.
“If you lose your job just because you support us, we give you this assurance: we will reinstate you,” said the PH deputy president when addressing the Sarawak PH convention in Sibu today.
The former deputy prime minister was referring to Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid’s warning to teachers and education officers not to support the opposition.
Mahdzir had said, during a briefing in Putrajaya, that civil servants, including education officers and teachers, were barred from joining any opposition party or criticising the government, as such actions were tantamount to sabotaging the ruling government and tarnishing its image.
Earlier today, however, the education minister’s Press team said the reminder not to support opposition was just “fatherly advice”.
Muhyiddin said civil servants should not be afraid as their votes were secret, but if they lost their jobs or faced discrimination due to their votes being made known, PH would ensure the matter was set right.
He said the government had no right to restrict Malaysians’ democratic right to vote for those they believed in.
He added seat allocations for the opposition pact had been finalised.
“For the first time in the history of the opposition in this country, we have sat down and finalised all the seat allocations,” he said, adding seat allocations in his home state of Johor were “settled last night”.
Sarawak PH settled seat allocation talks last month, and will stick with the 2013 arrangement.
With the matter finalised, Muhyiddin said, PH was “ready to go to war”.
He said the pact’s manifesto was ready, and a main agenda was to “get rid of the goods and services tax”.
“That’s the first thing we will do, as this has been a burden to the people.”
He said it was not impossible to remove Prime Minister Najib Razak from office or topple the BN government.
“There is already a groundswell. The ground has shaken as the people are angry. The time is up for BN.”
He said BN had been ruling for too long and had lost its direction, as the coalition came from the “time of the dinosaurs”.
“They cannot continue any more, even for one second. They must go. Time to go tell the people that the time is up for BN.” – January 20, 2018.
