SARAWAK Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg has lauded Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s “brave and wise decision” to face a confidence motion in Parliament in September.
Abang Johari noted the prime minister was putting his political career on the line.
“If he loses, then he has to go. If he wins, OK, he continues.”
He said it was wise because it would solve the lingering “political uncertainties, which have left the people uneasy”.
He was speaking to reporters after unveiling the state’s latest pandemic economic assistance package, Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) – or Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance - this afternoon.
“That is the place (parliament). You cannot assume you have got the majority.
“I feel that’s a good decision for the nation.”
Abang Johari at the same time also questioned why those who were opposed to Muhyiddin were in such a haste to take control of the government.
“The (remaining) term of the federal government is less than two years,” he said.
“Why not just wait for the general election? Why (do they) have to fight like this?”
Abang Johari also reiterated the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition he led continued to support Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional government “so the nation has a stable government”.
He added the foes of the prime minister could have just allowed the government to concentrate on administering the nation and tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in what’s left of its tenure. – August 4, 2021.

For the better or worse, this is not the time to change Govt especially we are facing the worse health crisis ever. The Rakyat is tired of endless politicking and govt officials are busy defending their turf than tackling the pandemic.
In fact, I wish the opposition MPs would seriously consider a ceasefire as suggested by LKS and even provide the parliamentary support for the PN Govt to continue until GE15 is due. Its only 1.5 years away. With their support, may be the PM can consider to drop all the non-performing ministers now. The Rakyat and their supporters will understand that the opposition support for PN is only to stabilize the govt so that full efforts can be brought to bear on the Covid-19 war.
Amanah, DAP, Pejuang and Warisan, please consider this seriously and maturely. Its unlikely PKR will support as their leader coverts the Premiership earnestly.
