THE attorney-general and Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders are now at Muhyiddin Yassin’s residence in Kuala Lumpur following Umno’s claim that the prime minister has lost majority support today.
Attorney-General Idrus Harun was among the first to arrive at 8.20pm, followed by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin and Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong, who is also MCA president, were also at Muhyiddin’s residence.
Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Roland Kiandee and International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali – both from Bersatu – were also at the Bersatu president’s Bukit Damansara residence.
Others there included PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and MIC president S.A. Vigneswaran.
None of them spoke to journalists camped outside the guardhouse on the road to Muhyiddin’s residence.
The huddle with the embattled prime minister was held following Umno’s announcement that “enough” of its MPs have withdrawn their support for Muhyiddin to ensure the collapse of the PN government.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a press conference earlier that MPs concerned have signed statutory declarations, which have been presented as evidence to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“Umno has enough MPs who have withdrawn support for the prime minister, hence he has no more legitimacy and has lost his majority,” he said after the party’s Supreme Council meeting.
The gathering dispersed three hours later.
Ismail Sabri is reported to have gone straight to Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, which is next to the Umno headquarters at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
The recently-appointed deputy prime minister met an undisclosed number of Umno MPs said to be aligned with Muhyiddin at the hotel.
After the meeting, which ended close to 2am, Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the PN government remained intact, according to Malaysiakini. – August 3, 2021.
