THE Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Arts has been granted the licence for its own television channel to promote local culture and tourism, minister Nancy Shukri disclosed yesterday.

She said the ministry had applied for the licence in 2018, before the general election, but it was only approved recently.

Nancy made the disclosure during a unity webinar organised by the Sarawak Unity Foundation yesterday if her ministry would consider reviving the Jelajah Seni television programme that was once aired on TV1.

The programme showcased the culture of the country’s various ethnic groups.

Nancy said her ministry is now working on the “technical part” of the special channel, one of which is funding.

She said since “a lot of money” is required for running a channel, the ministry is working on how to source the funds or share costs with other ministries that have similar interests. – July 16, 2021.
