Noor Hisham warns of uptrend in active Covid-19 cases

THE number of active Covid-19 cases continued on an uptrend, rising from 15,574 yesterday to 15,835 today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, noting that the rise began on April 7.

He said the country reported 1,317 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, with the fresh cases bringing the cumulative total to 362,173. This compares to 1,052 people making a recovery from Covid-19.

Ministry statistics show that Sarawak was the state reporting the highest number of cases with 351 new infections in the past 24 hours, followed by Selangor with 303 cases.

He said Labuan is the only state to see zero infections during this time.

He said only 12 of today’s cases were imported, while the rest stemmed from local transmission

He said the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus in Malaysia now stood at 345,005.

Four people have died from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,333.

Currently, Noor Hisham said there are 188 people in intensive care, 84 of whom require respiratory assistance. – April 12, 2021.
