MALAYSIA’S Covid-19 infectivity rate or r-naught (R0) has fallen to 0.88 as of yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet.
This is a 0.02% decrease from the previous day.
The R0 indicates the number of new infections estimated to stem from a single case.
Malacca had the highest rate at 1.13, followed by Selangor and Penang at 1.04.
Other states with an infectivity rate higher than 1.00 were Kedah and Sarawak, which reported 1.03 and 1.01 respectively.
The infectivity rate for Johor and Negri Sembilan was 1.0.
All other states reported an R0 of below 1.0 with Perlis recording the lowest at 0.65.
Malaysia yesterday recorded 3,384 new coronavirus infections, for a caseload of 254,998.
Thirteen people died from infection during that 24-hour period.
Noor Hisham said all except 15 of the new cases were local transmissions.
“Of the 3,369 local transmissions, 1,954 were Malaysians and 1,415 foreigners,” he said in a statement. – February 12, 2021.
